Product Description

Original Vintage 1930’s Tea Dress-Hollywood Glamour.

Lovely 30’s black taffeta dance dress with shots of shiny black detail throughout like exploding fireworks.

This is a classic 30’s bias cut dress with a sweetheart detail at the underbust seam and gentle gathers to enhance the bust line.

These gathers are echoed in the pretty puffed sleeves and again at the neck with a stand up frill that is lined in a delicate lemon acetate.

There are two little covered buttons at the waist and a tie belt at the back to nip it in.

Gorgeous ballerina length flowing bias cut skirt with exquisite detail at the hem-straight at the back and then gently sweeping up at the front with a cheeky scollap to show your fabulous 30’s shoes.

The dress has no label although there is the remains of a size label.

Excellent vintage condition for its age – a great addition to any vintage wardrobe.

It seems to be a slightly larger size too

Sizing Info

Sizing, especially for vintage dresses, is always a problem!

For one thing, there is no actual standard of what ‘Size 12’ actually means.  Different companies work to different rules, so size 12 Next is not the same as size 12 Marks & Spencer.  On top of that, the general idea of size 12 in 1965 is not the same as the general idea of size 12 in 2015, so if a vintage dress has a size label, that’s not much help either.

So – this is how things work in The Looking Glass online shop.  The actual dress measurements are specified in the description of the dress.  Please note –these are measurements taken from the dress itself – which won’t be quite the same as the measurements of the body to fit in it!

A good way to check sizing is to compare against a similar dress of your own which you know fits you well.  So, lay your dress out flat and measure across the bust, waist and hips with a tape measure.  (For example, if you measure across the bust with the dress flat on the floor, and the measurement is 45cm, then double that to give you the total dress bust size of 90cm).

I do give dress sizes in my online shop for guidance, and just so you know, this is how I work it out:

UK size Bust in cm Waist in cm Hips in cm Euro size
8 80 – 84 62 – 66 87 – 91 36
10 84 – 88 66 – 70 91 – 96 38
12 88 – 92 70 – 75 96 – 101 40
14 92 – 97 75 – 80 101 – 106 42
16 97 – 102 80 – 85 106 – 111 44
18 102 – 107 85 – 91 111 – 116 46

Terms & Conditions

Your legal rights are all described in the UK Consumer Contract Regulations, and you have some additional rights to cancel orders and return items when buying online compared with buying in an actual shop. The basic principles of how we work are:

1. Our ethos is all about true period vintage clothing of the highest quality; we do not sell any retro reproductions and everything is to the best of our knowledge a genuine item of the period described.  Every item is laundered or dry cleaned if possible and checked carefully, with skilled repair if needed, so that it is presented to you in the best possible condition. But these are always one-off items and around 40 to 80 years old, so like any antique, they are never going to be in perfect mint condition.

2. We want you to be thrilled with anything you buy from us. For UK buyers, the cost of basic standard postage is included in the price of the dress. If you have any reason to think that the dress you’ve bought is not right for you, please return it within 14 days, and we will give you a full refund of what you have paid us (you will need to pay the return postage cost and also any postage supplement for next day delivery, and of course the dress needs to be returned to us in the same condition as you received it).

3. For international buyers, an additional carriage charge is applied to purchases when you check out.  If you return a dress, we will refund the basic price paid, but will not be able to refund the additional carriage charge, and you are also responsible for the cost of returning the dress to us.
